The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) announced today that Hugh C. McDiarmid Jr. will join the EGLE executive team on Monday, Aug. 5. McDiarmid Jr. will coordinate all communication activities for the department.
McDiarmid Jr. comes to EGLE from The Kresge Foundation where he directed both internal and external communications for the foundation’s environmental program, which is focused on building climate change resilience in urban, low-income communities, among other key initiatives.
“We are thrilled to further strengthen our EGLE leadership team with the addition of Hugh McDiarmid Jr. in this vital communications role,” said EGLE Director Liesl Clark. “Hugh will help us tell the story of the important work EGLE staff do every day to protect Michigan’s environment and public health.”
McDiarmid Jr. has more than 30 years of experience in journalism and communications including a decade with The Detroit Free Press, where he reported extensively on environmental issues. He also directed communications efforts for the Michigan Environmental Council for eight years and more recently oversaw outreach for the Great Lakes Office of the International Joint Commission. A resident of Farmington, he will be based in Lansing and head EGLE’s Office of Public Information.
