New Ionia County Farm Bureau President Terry Page farms hay and cash crops between Ionia and Portland. In addition to the 2,600 acres of corn, soybeans and wheat, there’s also a busy custom harvesting business on the side, providing hay and custom forages to local dairy farms.
The farm was started in 1946 by his grandparents, Daryl and Maxine Page; today Terry farms in partnership with his father, Kevin. Terry and his wife Jody are on top of the next generation as well, with toddlers Gavin and Garret keeping them on their toes.
“I’d like to get more Young Farmers active in our county,” Page said when asked about his priorities as county president. “Member involvement could use a boost, too. We have a strong base right now, but often it’s a lot of the same people. It’d be nice to lighten the load on them by involving more members.
“Most of our programs are well attended, but it’d be nice to get some fresh blood in the game.”
Also on Page’s agenda is building better relations between his farm organization and the county’s Farm Bureau Insurance agents.
