Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan’s Agent Charitable Fund (ACF) and the Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies (MFBFoC) continue its mission to end food insecurity across the state, awarding $25,000 in Feeding the Future and Agents for Change grants in February.
ACF nonprofit grants
Ten Michigan nonprofit organizations were recently awarded hunger-relief grants to help handle food insecurity in their communities. Feeding the Future Grants are administered by the ACF.
Eligible recipients are nominated by their local Farm Bureau Insurance agent and selected by a committee of ACF donors based on the need of the organization, population being served and overall goal of the program. Organizations can utilize Michigan Farm Bureau’s Find an Agent tool to locate an agent in their area. The next round of Feeding the Future Grants is open and applications will be accepted until Friday, April 4.
Angels of Action — Big Rapids
Grant funds will be used to purchase food for the Backpack Blessings Program, which provides a bag of nutritious breakfasts, lunches and snacks to bridge the weekend gap for kids. Angels of Action was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Mike Ross.
Bretton Woods Covenant Church — Lansing
Grant funds will be used to purchase food for the church’s Unity Community Outreach program, which provides monthly meals for local families in need. Bretton Woods Covenant Church was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Mark Voss.
Delivering Hope — Fenton
Grant funds will be used to provide weekend food assistance for children in need in the Linden, Lake Fenton and Fenton school districts. Delivering Hope was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Ryan Valade.
First Presbyterian Church of Croswell — Croswell
Grant funds will be used to purchase a semi-truck load of perishable and shelf-stable foods to distribute at the monthly Croswell Area Food Truck event. The First Presbyterian Church of Croswell was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Curtis Soule.
Grand Rapids Civic Theatre — Grand Rapids
Grant funds will be used to purchase food for students in the theatre education programs, ensuring that all students, especially those on scholarship, receive the necessary nourishment to fully engage in their creative experiences. The Grand Rapids Civic Theatre was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Kate Landis.
Harrietta United Methodist Church — Harrietta
Grant funds will be used to purchase food for the church’s food pantry open-access cupboard, so community members can access high quality food in times of need. Harrietta United Methodist Church was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Melissa Schultz.
Higher Hopes — Commerce Township
Grant funds will be used to purchase food for weekend food prepacks for students facing food insecurity at home. Higher Hopes was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Dave Mensch.
Project Feed the Kids — Traverse City
Grant funds will be used to purchase shelf-stable food for children in need. Project Feed the Kids was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Scott Carter.
Second Helping — Oakley
Grant funds will be used to purchase food from the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan and feed Mid-Michiganders in need. Second Helping was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Megan Beldyga.
Trinity Lutheran Church — New Era
Grant funds will be used to purchase food from Feeding America West Michigan and milk from Country Dairy to support neighbors who visit the Trinity Community Food Pantry at the church. Trinity Lutheran Church was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Kaleb Klotz.
MFBFoC and ACF School Grants

Eastern Upper Peninsula Intermediate School District (EUPISD) — Sault Sainte Marie
Grant funds will be used to purchase healthy snacks and meals for young children who attend EUPISD operated early learning centers. EUPISD was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Caitlin Galer.
Holt Public Schools — Holt
Grant funds will be used to purchase snacks for Holt High School students who stay after school, so they can focus on improving their grades in their classes. Holt Public Schools was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Kyle Frizzell.
Marquette Area Public Schools — Marquette
Grant funds will be used to purchase produce for the school district’s JJ Packs program, which provides healthy and nutritious food to children on the weekends. Marquette Area Public Schools was nominated by Farm Bureau Insurance agent Scott Huber.
The ACF, whose mission is to end hunger in Michigan, is a donor-designated fund administered through the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture. The Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, a 501(c)(3) governed by Michigan Farm Bureau’s board of directors, positively contributes to the future of Michigan agriculture through leadership and educational programming.
