Farm Bureau members with political aspirations, looking to hone their governmental acumen to a fine edge, should seriously consider next year’s Academy for Political Leadership. MFB’s biannual Academy takes place over the course of five two-day meetings from January through April 2025, escorting a choice audience on an illuminating journey into the realities of political service and campaigning.

The Academy is designed for Farm Bureau members interested in politics and government, contemplating a run for public office or anticipating future leadership roles. Topics covered include running an effective campaign; how government functions; how legislation is developed; a day in the life of a legislator; political fundraising; media in politics; and more.

We need more farmers involved in government at the local, state and federal levels,” said MFB Elections Specialist Matt Kapp, who coordinates the program. “The Academy for Political Leadership gives Farm Bureau members the tools they need to be effectively involved in government, representing agriculture and making a real difference.”

Prospective participants must be nominated by their county Farm Bureau before Aug. 31. Counties may nominate more than one individual. MFB sends applications to nominees, then selects the most qualified candidates for admission into the Academy.

The $500 participant fee covers approximately 25% of the program costs, with the balance covered by MFB.
