Farm Bureau members appointed to asparagus, carrot and soybean boards

The appointees, selected by Gov. Whitmer, are subject to Senate approval.

Five county Farm Bureau members are among Gov. Whitmer’s recent appointments to the Asparagus Marketing Program Advisory Board, Michigan Carrot Commission and Michigan Soybean Committee

“These boards play an important role helping to guide Michigan’s specialty crop and traditional field crop programs,” said Theresa Sisung, MFB industry relations specialist. “Whether it’s discussing educational programs, strengthening promotional efforts, or launching research initiatives, our county Farm Bureau members serving in these roles will have opportunities for input, collaboration and leadership development.”

The appointees are subject to Senate approval.

Asparagus Marketing Program Advisory Board 

  • Oceana County Farm Bureau member Sarah Greiner, of Hart, is the CFO and co-owner of Todd Greiner Farms Packing, LLC. She is reappointed to represent northern-central growers-at-large through November 2025. 
  • Oceana County Farm Bureau member Jordon Walsworth, of Mears, is the farm manager for Golden Stock Farms. He is reappointed to represent northern-central growers-at-large through November 2025. 

Michigan Carrot Commission 

  • Oceana County Farm Bureau member Lee Oomen, of Walkerville, has been farming for 19 years and currently manages 720 acres of farmland. Oomen is appointed to represent fresh growers through October 2023. He succeeds Newaygo County Farm Bureau member Glenn Vogel. 
  • Oceana County Farm Bureau member Ralph Oomen, of Hart, has been farming for 37 years and owns 1,800 acres of farmland. Along with his brother, he owns and operates Oomen Brother’s Farm. Oomen is reappointed to represent process growers through October 2023. 

Michigan Soybean Committee

  • Shiawassee County Farm Bureau member Mark Senk, of Owosso, currently owns 2,150 acres and rents another 580 acres of farmland. Senk is the current vice president of the committee and is reappointed to represent District 6 growers through September 2025. 
  • Ryan Drozd, of Allegan, is a third-generation famer and an owner/partner of Drozd Family Grain. Drozd is appointed to represent District 7 growers through September 2025. He succeeds Allegan County Farm Bureau member Steven Koeman.
