Pierce Bennett has been named Michigan Farm Bureau’s (MFB) livestock industry relations specialist, effective Aug. 5.

Bennett brings a wealth of Farm Bureau knowledge and experience to his new role, having most recently served as director of public policy for the Minnesota Farm Bureau, where he built relationships with key industrial, congressional, and regulatory individuals and organizations.

Prior to joining the Minnesota Farm Bureau, Bennett spent five years with the Livestock Marketing Association in government and industry affairs.

An Ohio native, Bennett grew up on his family’s fourth-generation farm that primarily raises sheep and row crops.

In his role, Bennett will be responsible for providing the necessary research, education and information on livestock issues, animal care and disease, and value-added issues which will assist MFB members and the general agricultural community to improve their wellbeing.

Bringing his skills and expertise to MFB will allow Bennett to be in a role that focuses on livestock, which is what he said he’s most passionate about.

“The livestock industry has been very good to me, and it’s certainly an industry I care deeply about,” Bennett said. “I'm excited to focus on that on behalf of Michigan farmers and have an opportunity to be a little closer to my family.”

In addition to his extensive Farm Bureau experience, Bennett has been active in the agriculture industry including the National Institute of Animal Agriculture, United States Animal Health Association, and Agriculture Future of America.

Bennett earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science and Industry with a minor in Mass Communications from Kansas State University, where he also interned with the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry.
