Before sitting down to the bulk of their work this busy election year, county Farm Bureau candidate evaluation committees (CEC) are strongly advised first to get acquainted with changes to the state’s house, senate and congressional districts.
Michigan’s legislative districts are redrawn every 10 years, following each U.S. Census. Every state senate, state house and U.S congressional district is reconfigured to maintain roughly equivalent populations within each.
Basic maps are below, but for more detailed versions that allow you to zoom in for more detail, visit the state’s redistricting commission website.
“It’s very important that county Farm Bureau members review the maps to see the changes that have taken place,” said Matthew D. Kapp, election specialist with Michigan Farm Bureau.
Some counties will see more legislative districts — and therefore more races — that pertain to them. Also likely is that a given county may share a district with a neighboring county.
Redistricting will be discussed in detail at district-level CEC workshops taking place in March and April; watch Farm Gate for more information. CEC members are strongly encouraged to take part.
