Date Posted: December 31, 2024

After six months as interim leader of the Michigan Ag Council (MAC), New Lothrop native Hailey Gilbert was named the organization’s new executive director in November. She succeeds Noelle Nachreiner, who stepped down from the same position in last spring.

As interim director Gilbert helped the Council complete the Specialty Crop Block Grant program with streaming ads promoting agriculture, as well as hosting three Down on MI Farm events last summer, among other projects.

Among MAC’s other ag-outreach endeavors are the Michgan AF podcast, an online directory of consumer-facing farm businesses, and the Michigan GROWN, Michigan GREAT Ambassador program.

Formed in 2012, MAC represents an alliance of commodity groups and agribusinesses working together to raise awareness about food and agriculture.

Gilbert reports to the MAC executive committee, composed of leaders representing some of its many partner organizations: Michigan Foundation for Agriculture, Michigan Soybean Committee, Michigan Christmas Tree Association, United Dairy Industry of Michigan, Michigan Sugar, GreenStone Farm Credit Services, Corn Marketing Program of Michigan, Michigan Pork Producers Association, Michigan Beef Industry Commission, Michigan Soybean Committee, Michigan Vegetable Council, Michigan Wheat Program, Michigan Farmers Market Association, Michigan Horticultural Society, Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development, MSU Extension, Hop Growers of Michigan, Dairy Farmers of America, Michigan Milk Producers Association and Michigan Allied Poultry Industries.

Previously Gilbert worked in the marketing department at Greenstone Farm Credit Services, then in another marketing role with McCraken Consulting. Prior to that she interned with both MFB and Farm Bureau Insurance.

A member of the Gratiot County Farm Bureau, Gilbert and her husband Aaron live in Breckenridge.
