In the event of a fire, having a fire extinguisher can stop a small problem from escalating into a dangerous and expensive one. Whether you need an extinguisher for a kitchen, workshop, skid steer, combine, or even an industrial setting, Grainger has you covered with reliable products that meet safety standards.

Choosing the right extinguisher for your needs is an important factor to keeping yourself and your property safe. Consider the following factors:

  • Size — Smaller extinguishers are portable and easier to handle, but don’t last as long. Larger models contain more extinguishing agent and so can handle bigger fires.
  • Rating — Fire extinguisher ratings indicate their effectiveness. For example, a 2A:10B:C rated extinguisher means it’s effective for Class A, B and C fires. The A rating is a water equivalency rating. Each A is equivalent to 1¼ gallons of water. 2A = 2.5 gallons of water. B:C indicates what square footage the extinguisher can cover, handled by a professional. 10 B:C = 10 square feet of coverage. C indicates it is suitable for use on electric equipment.
  • Location — Keep an extinguisher in high-risk areas like the kitchen, garage and workshop. At home, have one on each floor and near sleeping areas.

Planting Season is upon us and farmers will soon be in the fields. Implementing a fire-safety checklist for your equipment and maintenance shop will mitigate losses if a fires happens. Never underestimate the planning and preventative maintenance process!
