Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) has hired Kristine Kuhnert as its new executive director of the Michigan Foundation for Agriculture (MFA), effective March 10, 2025.

Kuhnert will collaborate closely with MFB leadership and the broader MFB Family of Companies to support the foundation’s mission, with a particular focus on strengthening partnerships with donors to further support Michigan agriculture.

Kuhnert brings a strong passion for agriculture, community, and education. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics from Michigan State University, and her career has centered around nutrition and education, with roles at New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center and the Mayo Clinic.

Most recently, she served as director at Ele’s Place, a nonprofit that helps grieving children and teens. Kuhnert is also actively involved with the Delta-Waverly Rotary, where she’s helped support the Food Backpack Program, providing children with access to nutritious meals outside of school hours.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Kristine to the Michigan Farm Bureau family,” said Michigan Farm Bureau Chief Operating Officer Michelle Reynaert.

“Her experience in nonprofit leadership, dedication to community-building, and strong ability to forge meaningful relationships with donors make her the perfect person to lead the foundation. Kristine’s vision and energy will help propel us forward as we continue our work in supporting Michigan agriculture.”

As MFA’s new executive director, Kuhnert will play a key role in advancing the foundation’s strategic initiatives, including amplifying agricultural literacy across Michigan. With 66% of Michiganders not having visited a farm in the last seven years, MFA’s educational programs aim to bridge the gap between farm and table. Through hands-on experiences and public outreach, MFA works to help people better understand where their food comes from and why agriculture matters.

Kuhnert’s leadership will also focus on strengthening MFA’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of agricultural leaders. Through leadership development, mentorship, and educational opportunities, MFA empowers young farmers to shape the future of agriculture in Michigan. Additionally, MFA supports hunger relief initiatives to combat childhood hunger, making sure every child has access to the nutritious food they need to grow and thrive.

“The Michigan Foundation for Agriculture is about building a sustainable future for agriculture, both for today’s farmers and for the next generation,” Kuhnert said. “I am honored to be a part of this incredible organization and to work alongside the MFB Family of Companies to inspire positive change and growth in Michigan Agriculture.”

MFA’s work is made possible by the generous support of donors who share a common goal of building a strong, vibrant, and sustainable future for Michigan’s agricultural industry. To learn more about how you can support MFA’s initiatives or how you can get involved, click here.
