Corunna, Michigan agent, Rick Kingsbury, earned the coveted Elton R. Smith Award as Farm Bureau Insurance of Michigan agents from around the state gathered for the organization’s annual Convention in 2025. Kingsbury was recognized at the event for a career brimming with service, success, community support, charitable efforts, commitment to agriculture, leadership and volunteerism.

Upon receiving the award, Kingsbury led by thanking his wife Julie as well as his dedicated and long-tenured agency staff. He then reflected on his history and what the award means to him. “I'm a 2nd generation agent. I got to grow up on a farm, and the importance of the Elton R. Smith Award has been ingrained in me for many years. This means lot."

The Elton R. Smith Award pays tribute to former Michigan Farm Bureau President Elton R. Smith, whose impact on his community and the Farm Bureau organization remains a legacy. It honors a Farm Bureau Insurance agent who best exhibits commitment to their job, community, the insurance industry, and the Michigan Farm Bureau Family of Companies.

Farm Bureau Insurance CEO, Don Simon, highlighted Kingsbury’s dedication and service while presenting the award. “This agent has served in many ways over the years. He has given back to countless organizations. He has made a difference promoting youth sports. He has worked to fight childhood hunger in his community as an Agent Charitable Fund charter member. He participates as a school sponsor for the America & Me Essay Contest. He serves on his local church board, Red Cross board, and has been a volunteer fireman as well as holding positions as Chairman and President with the Kiwanis Club.” Simon also echoed the glowing praise of Kingsbury’s peers, citing recognition from those who nominated him for his hard work and helpful presence in Shiawassee County across the past three decades. “He has been an anchor in this region, never keeping knowledge to himself and always remaining accessable to help mentor fellow agents.”

“Thank you. Thank you for this true honor,” said Kingsbury during his acceptance speech. He acknowledged his agriculture roots while assuring his colleagues he would not be resting on the achievement. “Today (I’m) up here winning this award, and tomorrow I'll be cleaning chicken and cow pens.”
