In less than two weeks, voters will head to the polls in the state’s Aug. 2 primary election. With all legislative districts being newly redrawn, Michigan Farm Bureau encourages members to review who will appear on their ballot by visiting their easy-to-use candidate locator.
“It’s important to review offices up for election and the candidates’ names, in case you need to do research before casting your vote,” said MFB Government Relations Specialist, Matt Kapp.
“We also hope you take time to cross-reference your ballot with the AgriPac-endorsed Friends of Agriculture, who have been vetted by county Farm Bureaus across the state.”
Kapp added that redistricting can also cause polling locations to change. You can double check the location by referencing your voter information card mailed by your clerk’s office, or by visiting the Michigan Voter Information Center provided by the Secretary of State’s office.
In addition to narrowing down the field of five Republican gubernatorial candidates who will face off against incumbent Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, primary election voters will determine the final field of candidates running for Congress (13 seats), the Michigan Senate (38 seats), the Michigan House of Representatives (110 seats) and numerous local positions.
Before the November 8 general election, Michigan Farm Bureau — through AgriPac — will revisit the list of candidates running for state and federal offices to determine if additional endorsements should be made.
"We need leaders in all branches of government who understand, appreciate and respect agriculture's contribution to the state’s economy,” Kapp said. “For more than 40 years, that’s been one of our organization’s top priorities."
