Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) encourages member participation in elections because it helps ensure agriculture is represented in the political process. The state’s primary election was held on Aug. 2 and the general election will be Nov. 8.
MFB’s grassroots political action committee, AgriPac, focuses on electing Friends of Agriculture by evaluating and endorsing candidates seeking federal or state office whose positions are compatible with MFB policies, regardless of party affiliation.
County Farm Bureaus met throughout the spring and summer to review candidates locally, before making endorsement recommendations to AgriPac. 83 Friends of Agriculture were successful in the Aug. 2 primary election. Endorsements for the Nov. 8 general election will be announced in September. View AgriPac endorsements.
On the ballot
When voters head to the polls this summer and fall, they’ll select who will serve in the following government roles: Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State, Michigan Supreme Court (two seats), MSU Board of Trustees (two seats), Congress (13 seats), Michigan Senate (38 seats) and Michigan House of Representatives (110 seats).
Redistricting
The 2022 election is the first using the newly updated legislative districts crafted by the Michigan Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission. Both incumbents and new candidates will be working to familiarize themselves with constituents in the redrawn districts. See who will be on your ballot.
Know the candidates
Review how incumbents previously voted on issues of importance to agriculture and Farm Bureau policy by viewing their vote record.
Contact your county Farm Bureau to inquire about meet-the-candidate events or how you can help support Friends of Agriculture leading up to the election, such as walking door-to-door or placing yard signs.
Following Friends of Agriculture on social media is also a great way to see how the candidate interacts with their constituents.
Vote
Most importantly, show up and vote – your voice counts! If you can’t make it to the polls, simply request an absentee ballot. Michigan no longer requires a reason to vote via absentee ballot.
Voters can request an absentee ballot, view your personalized sample ballot, find your polling location and more through the Michigan Voter Information Center:
