Collegiate FB Spotlight: Van Buren’s Abby Flake

Date Posted: September 2, 2021

Now let’s turn our Collegiate Farm Bureau spotlight onto Van Buren County native Abby Flake, currently pursuing a degree in agriculture business and operations at Southwestern Michigan College in Dowagiac, where she’s one of about 15 Collegiate Farm Bureau members.

As a participant in last year’s #SpeakAgMichigan Challenge, Abby created informational social graphics and posting them to her Facebook page monthly to connect with consumers.

“I enjoyed the opportunity to share on social media about different agriculture topics, from information about apples to turkeys,” Flake said. “Feedback from the judges helped me polish my skills each month.”

Her advice to incoming freshman or those returning to campus this fall?

Abby Flake

“Join Collegiate Farm Bureau. It is a great experience for agriculture kids and even people outside of agriculture. It’s educational but fun, and you can meet new people and get connections with others that could help personally or business-wise.”

If you know a student heading to college this fall, encourage them to contact their Collegiate Farm Bureau Advisor. Make sure to search #SpeakAgMichigan on your Facebook and Instagram accounts September through December to catch and support our participating Collegiate Farm Bureau students in the 2021 #SpeakAgMichigan Challenge!
