Board Member Spotlight:

Matt Graham, Graham Family Farms

Matt Graham is a proud operator of Graham Family Farms, also known as Springbrook Farms, located in Howell. Specializing in corn, soybeans, and wheat, the farm also features a roadside stand offering bagged ear corn, straw, and seasonal vegetables like sweet corn and pumpkins.

The farm has been part of our Livingston County heritage, with Matt being the third generation to manage the land. His grandfather originally moved from Farmington to Howell in 1955, establishing a dairy farm. This tradition continued until 1999 when his grandfather retired, prompting a shift towards more diversified farming as Matt's father pursued a full-time job off the farm.

Today, Graham Family Farms encompasses around 250 acres. The farm is a true family operation, with Matt and his father working the land, supported by his mother and his wife, Rebekah. Despite the changes over the years, the family's commitment to farming remains strong.

Matt takes immense pride in continuing his family's legacy and being a good steward of the land. He finds fulfillment in contributing to valuable food production, ensuring sustainable farming practices are upheld.

A visit to Springbrook Farms offers a glimpse into the dynamic nature of farming. Depending on the season, Matt could be engaged in various tasks at Fowlerville Farm Services/Van Gilder Farms, where he works full-time. His duties range from scouting fields and driving trucks to operating equipment, soil sampling, and analyzing data for agronomy, sales, and precision agriculture.  As with most of our younger farming generations, the family farm work comes after a full day off farm.  Depending on the season, Matt can be found planting or harvesting, or stocking the roadside stand.

One little-known fact about Graham Family Farms is its active presence on social media. You can follow their farming journey on Facebook or Instagram @springbrookfarmshowell, where they welcome questions and interactions from the community.

Matt is a valued member of the Livingston County Board of Directors, serving as Vice-President on the Executive Committee, and is also a member of the Young Farmer Committee and Candidate Evaluation Committee.  Thank you, Matt- for everything you do for Livingston County Farm Bureau!
