This is an important opportunity to encourage readers of all ages to read daily and to foster a love of books for readers across the country. Michigan Farm Bureau (MFB) and American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) loves to celebrate literacy and education statewide while increasing ag awareness and understanding.
Are you a teacher, home-schooling parent, or know a teacher? Our “Ag in the Classroom” program is a great tool for your lesson plans. This educational program teaches students about agriculture by incorporating ag-themed books and activities into your reading curriculum to celebrate both learning about farming and the joy of reading. These books are carefully selected focusing on agriculture, ensuring accuracy, relevance, and educational value.
Educator’s Guides are also available. These are lessons and activities written to accompany many of our accurate ag books and are matched to Next Generation Science, Common Core or Michigan state-level standards. They have been created to be used by both teachers and parents and utilize agriculture as a real-life example to teach required concepts for any grade level.
WHY DO TEACHERS CARE?
- Agriculture has jobs! 923,000 in Michigan alone.
- Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources related industries make up Michigan’s 2nd economic sector.
- Agriculture lessons can integrate science, technology, engineering, and math while meeting state and national educational standards.
- Agriculture can provide a real-world connection for abstract concepts in learning.
- Community members can engage with students by making connections to local agriculture.
- Students will become consumers, neighbors, voters, and engaged community members – teaching the value of agriculture now can impact the future.
