Our Promotion & Education team in Missaukee County celebrated July Ice Cream Month with a little help from Tasty Treat Ice Cream of Lake City. Who doesn’t want free ice cream?!?
I met with Tasty Treat’s new owner, young Andy DeBoer, to see if we could partner with them and celebrate the month with free ice cream cones for kids!
I got a promotion grant from United Dairy Industry of Michigan (UDIM) but wanted to think of something more than just giving cones away. We got some of the UDIM kids’ bags that they can color on both sides and learn some interesting information about dairy at the same time.
I took the bags to Tasty Treat and gave them to the owner. Kids picked up a dairy bag to color and when they brought the colored bag back to display in the window, they received a free ice cream cone!
“It gave the kids something to do,” DeBoer said. “The bags had facts about dairying on them, giving them an opportunity to learn a little about dairy farmers while coloring.”
We started the event in July and ended Aug. 2.
The bags were great and on many of them you could tell the kids took their time being creative with their coloring. Tasty Treat displayed the bags in their windows, which drew a lot of thankfulness and praise from community members.
On National Ice Cream Day (July 17), Tasty Treat also had a drawing for a free t-shirt and $10 gift certificate.
