Every year Young Farmers gather for district-level events that focus on networking and building professional skills — and a lot more fun than they expect. Whether it’s a baseball game or touring the Bluewater Bridge, don’t miss your chance to get to know the other Young Farmers in your community.
Discussion Meets are leadership competitions designed to help Young Farmers practice their conversational skills — a vital talent that comes in handy every time you want to chime in at a county Farm Bureau meeting, school board or just around the kitchen table.
If you’re new to Discussion Meets, check them out — even if only to listen in on the conversation and cheer on your peers — then join in on the fun the next year!
This year’s district-level topic is:
Farmers and ranchers are at the forefront of environmental stewardship. From soil health to local ecosystems, producers are concerned about how to be both environmentally and financially sustainable. How can farmers and ranchers effectively advance environmental stewardship while balancing the needs of their farms?
Every district will discuss the same topic, however, a back-up topic (click here/topics/#2) and the full topic list for the state contest are in the guidebook in case there are enough participants for a second round.
So gather your thoughts ahead of time — prepared notes are welcome — and bring your ideas and enthusiasm.
Participants advancing from the district level can win serious prizes at the state level: The winner bags $2,000 and the chance to compete in the national competition next January in Anaheim, California.
Visit michfb.com/yfdiscussionmeet for district dates and other information. If you can’t make it but are itching to compete, keep an eye out for the statewide makeup event that’ll take place virtually this fall.
Now: Discuss!
