Farm Bureau members appointed to Michigan asparagus, potato boards

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has appointed Cass County Farm Bureau member Jeremy Shank to the Michigan Asparagus Advisory Board and Wexford County Farm Bureau member Ryan Johnson to the Michigan Potato Industry Commission. 

“Michigan Farm Bureau’s success is built on strong industry partnerships and the personal relationships our members cultivate,” said MFB Industry Relations Specialist Theresa Sisung. “Having our members serve in these roles ensures that agriculture’s voice remains strong in shaping policies and helps strengthen collaboration across the industry, benefiting not just their respective commodities but the broader agricultural community.”

Michigan Asparagus Advisory Board

Jeremy Shank, of Dowagiac, is the vice president of Central Produce Sales, Inc. He received an associate degree in automotive technology from Southwestern Michigan University and a Bachelor of Arts in business administration from Ferris State University. Shank is appointed to represent growers-at-large through November 13, 2027. Shank succeeds Berrien County Farm Bureau member Kyle Weber, whose term has expired.

  • Nicholas Oomen, an Oceana County Farm Bureau member from Hart
  • William Schwass, a Mason County Farm Bureau member from Scottville
  • Steve Riley, an Oceana County Farm Bureau member from Mears
  • Dwight Fuehring, an Oceana County Farm Bureau member from Mears

The Michigan Asparagus Advisory Board seeks to promote the production and consumption of asparagus grown in Michigan as well as to assist in the agricultural research and development of asparagus farming. 

Michigan Potato Industry Commission

Ryan Johnson, of Tustin, is the owner of A.L. Johnson and Sons, a potato packing facility. He holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Saginaw Valley State University. Johnson is appointed to represent shippers through July 1, 2025. Johnson succeeds Rebecca Williams, who has resigned.

  • Matthew Skogman from Foster City

The Michigan Potato Industry Commission was created to foster and promote an economically viable potato industry in Michigan by providing responsible leadership for the industry. The Commission provides leadership in disseminating information to foster the growth and well-being of the potato industry, all the while representing the interests of the industry at state, national, and international levels.
